"The pain bothered you at first. But you pushed it away? I guess that was possible for you. But for others, it is not so easy to push the pain away. The pain does not want to leave, and coupled with the abandonment and hopelessness I felt, it became even worsel. It came to the point where the only relief I could find was the pain of others," Nikolas said quietly.

"I was just so tired of feeling pain. Of being depressed all the time. I wanted to be happy. 6 years of my childhood had been wasted in depression. So I got rid of it." Lilah whispered. "And I know it is harder for others, but if an 11 year old could do it, why can't other people?"

"Others have not felt pain so badly that they have no choice but to grow strong enough to push it away. And when they do feel pain that bad, it leaves on its own, before their strength is built up enough to push it away... "You know I was the only one in the house to survive, yet my brother was not there. I don't know where he is now, or if he's even still alive..." Nikolas said quietly.

Lilah sat silently. "What, h-happened?" Lilah whispered, "If you don't mind me asking..." She shifted akwardy and looked down at the ground.

"The town hated us... I don't know why, either. It was Halloween, everything was dark, it was storming, and a few people from the town set the house on fire from the back. We didn't even know until it was upon us. I barely made it out, my hands are burned from the experience, an always present reminder. Everyone else died. I haven't been back to the town since, and I've always been alone since then," Nikolas said. He had come and sat in front of Lilah, tired of standing.

"Oh," Lilah said quietly. "I'm sorry that happened to you..." Lilah's eyes scanne dthe forest. "My parents just died from disease..." Lilah whispered. She remembered the day she was told that her parents were gone. The years she had spent alone in the forest, hiding in her shadows, and as she thought of those times, her shadows swallowed her, leaving her protected, and unseen.

"You had time with them, you were happy. I didn't even really have that. My parents were always so busy, yet I still loved them so much. It hurt me when they were gone, I was so angry, I felt so betrayed, so unwanted. I couldn't take it," Nikolas said.

"Spending time with them made it hurt even more. Being with them all the time, and then they were just stripped away. I didn't understand what had happened though. I just knew they were gone. I didn't get the concept of death yet. For all I kew they had just left me." Lilah said, with slight pain in her voice, but not enough to show on her face.

"But now you can look back and be glad that you had that small amount of time with them. I cannot. Being without family, without anyone to depend on, can do things to a person...sometimes those aren't good things either," Nikolas said, looking up into the night sky as he spoke.

"Atleast you can remember them.. Remember what they were like, what they looked like..... All I can remember is after they died. The only things I do remember is my feelings. How I felt when I found out. And All of my emotions after that..." Lilah's shadows did not want wer to be seen. No one would even know she was there if she wasn't talking. Her shadows had consumed her, for they felt she needed to be protected..

"Sometimes, remembering is not the best. My memories are not very pleasant. My family was not the nicest, not since Nikola moved away. They adored him, and when he was gone, they treated me as if I was nothing. Nikola would've stopped them if he had been there, but he had abandoned me just like everyone else had! No one cared about me, no one would've cried for me if I had died in that fire! I would've just disappeared, gone just like everyone else in my family!" Nikolas shouted. His rage consumed him, clouding his judgement and thoughts. He could think of nothing but his will to make the rest of the world feel the pain that he did.

"Even if your life seemed terrible, there is always somebody. Sometimes the person you least expect is the one to care for you most. Maybe you haven't even met that person yet, but when you do, they will care if you had died, for they would have never met you.." Lilah's green eyes shined, although you couldn't see them. She was very pretty under the moon light, but she hid in her shadows, so nobody would know. Her sking sparkled and glowed, and her hair shined. Her beauty was undeniable. Her shadows lossened their grip around her, letting her be somewhat seen. She was like a blurred out figure, so the removed some more. Just enough for her beauty to be seen, and magnyfied.

Nikolas could not deny that the girl had some wisdom about her, a certain charm, and definitly some looks. She was a very beautiful girl, and very wise for her age. Maybe she was right, but he could not believe that any one would care about him, a tormenter. He cared for no one, so why would some one care for him? Why would some one care if he died? "The only person who has ever cared about me was Nikola. I don't even know if he's alive any more. For all I know he died in some freak accident the same night my parents died. I'm never going to see him again, for if he is alive, he believes me to be dead," Nikolas said coldly.

"Have you ever tried looking for him? Or have you just assumed he was dead and gone? You gave up before you ever even tried..." Lilah felt so much wiser when she was around Nikolas. Like he gave her wisdom.... She realized that her shadows had adjusted around her. She didn't even have to do anything. They sensed her feelings, and did what they believed she wanted. Lilah looked at the moon, and studied its beauty. Her green eyes sparkled under the moonlight, and had a wise look on them. Her eyes made her look older. As if she was an adult....

"Where am I to look? He never stays in one place, I do not know where he is... For all I know he could be halfway across the world! And that's if he's not dead!" Nikolas said. He hated what the town had done to him, how hopeless they had made him. THe abandonment, the betrayal, the hurt, the pain, everything came flooding back to him, making his old desire to drown it out with the pain of others return. He craved some one's pain, some one's misery, just to end his own, to make it all disappear, if only for a few hours.
